Looking for entertainment nearby, in a beautiful area too? Take a look at the Parbold Festivals over Spring and throughout Summer. Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May is the date of the next one.

For those who don’t know, the Wayfarers Pub and Restaurant nestles on the edge of the  picturesque Parbold village. That’s just before before heading up to Dalton. It’s set to be the vibrant location of several annual festivals again this year. That includes the popular annual Parbold Festival. The annual festival is known for its warm hospitality. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, the Parbold Festivals offer an unforgettable experience. They bring together community spirit and festive cheer in a picturesque countryside setting.

The Music & Food Fest May 17th – 18th

The May festival is also known as the Problem Child Originals Music & Food Fest. It is a vibrant celebration of local talent and creativity. The festival showcases original music from up-and-coming Northern artists. The aim is to discover bands that could potentially perform at major events like Glastonbury. The Wayfarer head brewer, Jonny Birkett, is also putting on a mini beer festival. The Wayfarer has its own micro brewery. It produces a fine range of real ales and craft beers under the name Problem Child. More about that later. The organisers provide creative and original street food. The festival authentically reflects the brewery’s passion for creativity and originality.

The pub interior at Problem Child Brewing is designed to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for its patrons. Now the latest refurbishment has enhanced this ambiance with modern touches while preserving the traditional charm of the establishment. The interior features cosy seating areas, rustic wooden furnishings, and tasteful décor that reflects the brewery’s heritage. The refurbished bar area is more spacious and comfortable for guests to enjoy their drinks. Also the beer garden is significantly larger now. 

Problem Child Brewery

Problem Child is brewed on-site at the Wayfarer’s. It is known for its range of hand-crafted artisan beers some of which have appeared at the Wigan Beer Festival. Established in 2013, the brewery has gained a reputation for its unique and flavourful brews. Some of the popular beers include “Scallywag” It’s a golden hoppy ale brewed with cascade and galena hops. Then you can sample “Rapscallion“. That’s ideal for lovers of a deep golden ale. It oozes with flavours of toffee and a gentle liquorice background. You can always try a “Good Spankin“. Steady on it is the name of a beer. A golden, sharp, and dry ale with a strong finish. “Rascal” is also a popular choice. A refreshing straw-coloured pale ale packed with Amarillo and Cascade hops, giving it tropical fruit and citrus flavours. 

In addition to their on-site offerings, Problem Child Brewing also provides a selection of takeaway beers. These include their signature brews like “Scallywag,” “Rapscallion,” “Good Spankin’,” and “Rascal,” all available in convenient takeaway formats. So even if you are the designated driver then you can enjoy their creations from home.

Separate Italian and Gastro Dining Restaurants

Outside of festival times the Wayfarer offers two great restaurants as well as bar meals and outdoor eating experiences. From breakfasts, midday and evening meals. The venue also has its own organic herb and vegetable garden that you can see yourself.

The main restaurant offers a diverse menu that includes Italian cuisine, an À la Carte restaurant. Of course on festival days there is the option of street food. The Italian restaurant serves delicious, from-scratch cooking, using high-quality ingredients and local produce. The À la Carte restaurant provides a variety of inventive and delicious dishes, catering to different dietary requirements and preferences. Local produce including some from the on-site organic garden feature. The pub offers a selection of traditional pub fare, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy

Directions

By Train

Take a Northern Rail train from Wigan Wallgate to Parbold station. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes. Once you arrive at Parbold station, the Wayfarer is just a short walk. Exit the station and turn right. Continue for about 0.2 miles over the canal bridge until the T-Junction. Take a right turn. The Wayfarer is no more than a 100 yards on the opposite side of the road. By Car

The most scenic route is through Up Holland and Ashurst Beacon. Go straight past the Beacon Country Park down the hill. At the the mini roundabout turn right. You will see the Wayfarer on your right.

Alternatively take the M6 towards Preston. Stay on the M6 for about 5 miles, then take exit 27 for A5209 toward Parbold/Standish. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Crow Orchard Road/A5209. Continue on A5209 for about 3 miles. You will go over the canal bridge. The Wayfarer is on the left.
