A Boxing Day Stroll

Five suggestions from previous #WWO articles to get you thinking if you fancy a Boxing Day stroll. Long or short, from the beach to woodlands, fields and lakes. Please remember if walking through the countryside then keep to the well marked footpaths and don’t wander over fields. They are the farmer’s income and possibly your local organic food!

A Boxing Day Stroll over Ashursts BEacon and Parbold

Looking Over to Parbold Hill from Ashurst’s Beacon

Just through Upholland, past the Beacon and onto the church by Dalton. Well marked footpaths taking in Ashurst Beacon, the valley over to Parbold and even an option of a flatter stroll by the canal.

A Boxing Day Stroll around Car Mill

Car Mill Dam

Even closer to home and just 15 minutes from Winstanley by car. The more advennurous could even walk it over footpaths from the back of Tanhouse! A lovely walk taking in Carr Mill Dam and the Chapel End of Billinge. Lots of footpaths and a hidden gem of the Masons Arms with tranquil views of the surrounding fields.

Crosby Beach at Dusk

Fancy a walk along an unspoilt beach backed by miles of san dunes, a coastal path and Marine Lake? Then try a short trip down the M58 towards Crosby.The home to the Antony Gormly Another Place sculptures; 99 6 foot tall cast figures looking out folornly acropss the seas.

Rewilding a Golf Course

Views From Frodsham Cliff on the Edge of Frodsham Woods

Just over the new Mersey Crossing at Widnes and before getting on to the M56. Head up to Frodsham taking the steep country road to a former golf course that now boasts vast acres of broadleaf woodland. Secluded from roads, free parking and breathtaking views over Cheshire, the Mersey, Liverpool Bay and West Lancs. It’s just a short stop from Delamere too if you want to make it part of a larger wander.

Reynolds and Calderstones Parks Woolton

The Entrance Gates to Calderstones

On the Beatles Tour Trail close to the lovely suburbs of Woolton and Gateacre with oodles of decent bars, cafes and restaurants. A little further and you could take in Sefton Park or the ec;lectic bustling Lark Lane. Two lovely parks, Calderstones the larger and Reynolds much less known and smaller but peaceful and well-kept with its walled garden.
